Tuesday night it was officially announced that State Representative Consuelo Hernandez had secured $1 million in the State budget to assist the city fund food for non-profit organizations who currently provide food in the community.

Hernandez made the announcement herself at the regular meeting of the city council Tuesday night after first meeting with area non-profits who provide food to those in need. Hernandez said, “After hearing from the organizations and what the needs in this community are, and to see how those organizations do so much with the budgets they have, I am confident these funds will be put to good use.”

Mayor Ken Budge said the funds will defiantly assist in the community. Budge said that it was important for the city to include the organizations that already provide food.
