Bisbee Bikeways Founder Meggen Connolley’s 8 years of persistence and determination to provide a safe walking and bike riding path connecting Old Bisbee to other parts of town has paid off.
Connolley along with city officials, and key stakeholders from Arizona Department of Transportation, Kimley Horn, Freeport McMoRan, Bisbee Foundation, Bert Whitehead Family Foundation along with dozens of community members supporting Connolley and the project were on hand Monday morning to celebrate the groundbreaking ceremony for the project.
The project will be completed in two stages. The east segment portion of the project commence this month. Construction will include reconfiguring the eastbound travel lanes along SR 80 from MP 341.50 to MP 342.80, to provide approximately 1.3 miles of shared-use pathway between Old Bisbee and Erie Street. The project includes roadway grading, asphalt paving, sidewalk and curb improvements, traffic control measures, signage, striping, drainage improvements, protective concrete barrier installation, and related infrastructure necessary to complete the shared-use path.
