Bisbee Bikeways Project Facing Collapse Due To Unforeseen Rise In Costs

Community Support Is Needed To Move Project Forward

Bisbee Bikeways is hoping the community can step up to help raise another $800,000 for the Lavendar Pit (east) segment of the project – from Queen Mine Tour to Lowell – to begin construction before time and money runs out.

As the all-around cost of the project has increased since Kimley-Horn and Associates, Inc. submitted their estimate in December, the shared-use pedestrian path faces the possibility of remaining a pipe dream for the community.

With different agendas and approval processes across all three government agencies involved (city, state and federal), combined with increased costs, the project is faced with a July deadline to come up with the additional funds. If the money isn’t raised, the project stands to lose significant U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA) funding.
