Over the past year, Bisbee Bikeways has made a lot of headway in its crusade to get a shared-use path that safely connects Old Bisbee to Warren via the Lavendar Pit, which is the heart of the town. The project is moving forward with a full head of steam into the new year, with years of hard work finally coming to fruition in 2026.
Spearheaded by Meggen Connolley in 2018, she had a vision to connect the neighborhoods in Bisbee (and beyond) via a safe pedestrian route that also promotes being active and reduces the environmental impact that vehicles on the road create. The project has evolved through the years, and as it has, she has found several allies along the way that share the vision to make this happen to benefit the community in many ways.
Bisbee Bikeways has collaborated with many stakeholders, such as the U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA) and Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT), as well as the City of Bisbee, Cochise County and Kimley-Horn and Associates, Inc., to make Connolley’s vision a reality soon.
