When you take away a growing child’s mid-morning snack, they get hangry. Which in turn affects their learning and attention span. Their brains become starved of nutrients needed to properly function.
Teaching then also becomes counterproductive. And students at Bisbee High School (BHS) had had enough last school year when they Awardcame back from summer break and their mid-morning snack was replaced with a before school snack. This proved problematic, especially for the 60% of transnational students that cross the border daily, as the bus bringing the border students was always late. It wasn’t fair, and students, led by their teacher, Blais Cross, took their message all over the country, where they presented their story and plea to bring back mid-morning snack time.
The issue arose when the students came back to school to begin the 2023-2024 school year and discovered they no longer had mid-morning snack time but rather pre-school snack time. They had it the previous school year, and their bodies needed that extra boost.
