The Cochise County Board of Supervisors approved a funding increase for the open Chief Civil Deputy County Attorney position in hopes to attract highly qualified candidates for the position now vacant due to the recent firing of Paul Correa who is facing charges related to an incident at the Sierra Vista Target that alleged involved videoing an underage girl and public sexual indecency.
At the February 10 Cochise County Board of Supervisors meeting, Cochise County Attorney Lori Zucco told the board the current $154,000 salary for the Chief Civil Deputy County Attorney position is below market and that in order to entice well qualified candidates to take a job in Cochise County a salary increase was needed.
Supervisor Frank Antenori acknowledged that it is hard to find a good attorney at the salary currently offered for the position, adding he hoped the county could find an attorney with trial experience. Adding that it is getting harder to draw people to Cochise County because salaries are not competitive enough.
