The report of an early morning structure fire last week led to the discovery of a deceased body.

Bisbee Fire Chief Jim Richardson said firefighters responded to an apartment fire at Pueblo Court Apartments on West Blvd around 5:30 a.m. on October 22. He said firefighters arrived on scene and could see smoke and flames through a front window.

After gaining access to the interior of the apartment they found a pile of items on fire in the living room. While at the scene firefighters conducted a search of the apartment and found a deceased woman in a bedroom with obvious signs of trauma. Chief Richardson said firefighters exited the bedroom to preserve the integrity of what they said looked like suspicious and called for police to respond.
