As nonprofits all over the country are struggling to replace funding they’ve lost over the past six months, Goar Park Lunches, a food pantry that also provides health and wellness supplies at 89 Main Street, is no exception. It is a challenge that Liza Kovach, the chair and (unpaid) executive director of the board of directors, has embraced head-on.
Goar Park Lunches was started by Dan Maldonado, serving lunch in Goar Park for the unhoused in the community, and gained 501(c)3 status in 2018. The number of board members has fluctuated from three to five since then; however, Kovach is confident the five current board members, including two new ones in the past year, can keep the doors open to continue serving those in need of a healthy meal.
