Bed Tax Funds Staying Put, DMO Contract Rescinded

Two items related to tourism were addressed at the May 19, Bisbee City Council meeting, one drawing no action and the other item ending with a council vote to rescind and redo the request for proposals (RFP) for a destination marketing organization (DMO).

The council discussed a request by councilmembers Karen Schumacher and Mel Sowid to approve a resolution to return previously transferred bed tax funds in the amount of $140,576.97 back to the bed tax budget. She explained the funds were originally transferred to the city’s capital improvements budget during the 2025/26 fiscal year for the development of a new visitor center.

Councilmember Schumacher told the council, since the funds were not going to be used for that purpose they should be moved back to the visitor center budget. Council member Sowid agreed with her.
