To recognize teachers from elementary, middle and high schools across the county – who go above and beyond their call of duty – the Cochise Education Foundation will once again be selecting winners for the Cochise County Teacher of the Year Award in select categories. The winners will be announced on May 2 at at the Community Innovation Center in Sierra Vista.
This year, seven teachers from the Bisbee United School District (BUSD) have been nominated for the annual awards. The teachers from Bisbee High School (BHS) include Amy Brett, Jacob Stewart, Blais Cross, Dylan Thompson and Brian Vertrees. Marsha Miller from Lowell Junior High School (LJHS) and Christina Delgado from Greenway Elementary School (GES) are the other two nominees.
Brett, an art teacher at BHS for the past four years, has been nominated for Teacher of the Year for her second time since she started teaching in Bisbee in 2019. She and her husband moved here from Phoenix after she retired from teaching there for 33 years; however, she couldn’t stay away from education for very long.
