Bisbee is a city that must constantly adapt and reinvent itself to upstand the wear and tear that comes with time and with weather. Built in the 1930s, the Moon Canyon Bridge, just north of Bisbee Fire Department’s Station 82 on Tombstone Canyon, has been connecting people to their homes and to their friends and family for nearly a century.
With a Federal Highway Administration (FHA) score of 4 (and one of the lowest ratings in the state of Arizona), which means it’s in poor condition, it is now necessary for the bridge to go through its reinvention phase to continue to serve the current and future populations. Without the bridge, vehicular traffic to Adams Avenue, Laundry Hill and Bailey Hill would be cutoff.
“This bridge is a vital link for the Moon Canyon and Adams Avenue neighborhoods,” said Matthew Gurney, director of the City of Bisbee’s Public Works Department.
