The on-line publisher of the Cochise County Record has filed a motion in Cochise County Superior Court seeking damages and sanctions against Cochise County Sheriff Mark Dannels and Cochise County Attorney Lori Zucco over their actions related to a public record request.

Publisher, David Morgan, is seeking $76,000 in damages after Dannels filed suit against him after he requested a copy of the 2021 National Institute of Jail Operations (NIJO) report which was referenced several times when the county was pursuing a sales tax increase to build a new jail facility.

Morgan was repeatedly denied access to the report, with the county citing that there was confidential and sensitive information that would pose a security threat to the jail and the staff.
