The Bisbee High School (BHS) students are now officially back in the swing of things, and with the new school year comes a renewed initiative for them to not only read more but to enjoy what they choose to read.
Inspired by the D.E.A.R. Program – which stands for “Drop Everything and Read” – BHS Principal Joni Giacomino started a donation drive seeking any books or magazines (or other applicable reading material) for BHS students. All appropriate genres are accepted, such as Western, science fiction, mystery, etcetera – but no adult romance novels.
In 2014, BHS took part in the D.E.A.R. Program, which is observed every year on April 12th – Beverly Cleary’s birthday. (The D.E.A.R. time was a reading practice in her Ramona books.) Giacomino wanted to make the annual reading celebration a daily one this school year.
