The United States Department of interior, National Park Service issued a letter to the City of Bisbee and the Bisbee Unified School District letting them know the Warren Ballpark is one of four properties being studied to determine if the sites meet the requirements and standards to be designated National Historic landmarks.
According to the letter the Warren Ballpark is being considered because of its importance in history as it was the Bisbee Deportation Detainment site in 1917.
According to the letter, “National Historic Landmarks are nationally significant places that illustrate important themes, persons, or events in American history. The National Historic Landmarks Program recognizes properties of exceptional national significance in the nation’s history, architecture, archeology, engineering and culture. Once reviewed by the National Park System Advisory Board and designated by the Secretary of the Interior, each new landmark may request an official bronze plaque from the National Park Service that recognizes this high distinction.”
