As the 2024-2025 school year winds down in the next month, three teachers are hoping to collect a Cochise County Teacher of the Year award before they clean out their desks for the summer, or for the last time for two of the three nominees.

Coleen Keller, a science teacher at Lowell Junior High School; Brianna Young, a film and TV production teacher at Bisbee High School (BHS); and Armando Ballesteros, a fitness and conditioning teacher at BHS, are up for the annual accolade. This is the third time Ballesteros has been nominated, with a runner-up finish as his best result so far. It is a first-time nomination for both Keller and Young.

With 41 years of teaching under her belt, the Bisbee born and raised Keller is retiring at the end of this school year. After leaving town and moving to northern Indiana, where she lived for 27 years, she returned to the area five years ago to spend more time with her mom.
