Melanie Greene, interim transit manager, shared the findings of a recent federal two-day audit on the transit program, which shed some light onto what has been done and what still needs to be done to keep the wheels on the bus rolling during the regular meeting of the Bisbee City Council on January 6.
Greene presented key data to the city council and advised them to continue the dialogue to figure out how to fill the gap between the money they currently have available for the bus and what the actual operating costs are before the coffers run dry. Simply put, if the city doesn’t come up with more funding soon – per Greene’s estimation – the money will run out as early as late March and as late as early May.
She stressed there is more federal funding available that can help bridge this gap, and the first step is asking for monthly reimbursements from the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT).
